| A speed camera operator escaped with only a cut finger after he was attacked by an axe-wielding man in Melbourne's south.
The camera operator was working in Wedge Road, Carrum Downs, was sitting in the front passenger seat of his car when the driver's side window was smashed by a man with an axe about 10.35pm yesterday (AEST), police said.
The operator, a 40-year-old man from nearby Frankston, was sitting in the front passenger seat and showered with glass.
The man thrust the axe at the operator a number of times.
The attacker fled through a field when the operator activated an audible panic alarm.
The man was described as 178cm tall.
He was wearing a dark jacket similar to those worn by workmen, dark trousers and a beanie.
The speed camera car was extensively damaged.
