| THE federal Nationals MP John Cobb has described himself as a "bloody idiot" after being caught speeding on a country road.
The member for Calare told ABC Radio he was recently running late when he was detected travelling between 30 and 45 kmh over the 100 kmh speed limit on a road near Orange in in the state's Central West.
"But that's no excuse, I was stupid," he said. "It was a quiet country road but, as I say, that's no excuse for that."
He said he would heed his own advice in the future.
"I was a bloody idiot and I guess we all advise every holiday or every time you leave your family, you say 'drive carefully'. I've got to listen more carefully to what I say myself."
Mr Cobb, the Opposition spokesman for regional development and water security, is yet to receive his infringement notice, which could result in his licence being suspended for three months.
In 2002, in his maiden speech to Parliament, Mr Cobb said: "Transport is the lifeblood of my electorate, whether it be by road, rail or air". He will need one of his staff to drive him around should his licence be suspended.
