OZschwitz idiots: Frigid cocksuckers at Women's Forum Australia pressure advertisers to boycott The Footy Show

A NATIONAL women's lobby group is threatening to pressure companies that advertise on The Footy Show to boycott the program.

ANZ has directed its Channel Nine advertising away from the top-rating show in protest at its attitude towards women.

The director of Women's Forum Australia, Melinda Tankard Reist, said a wider boycott would have broad support.

"This is definitely worth us doing," she said. "The program has caused a great deal of hurt to a lot of women and if The Footy Show can't respond in a proper manner, then maybe they will respond when they start losing money."

The group, led by a Canberra-based board of female academics, doctors and welfare experts, will consider the issue at a board meeting next week. Advertisers or sponsors on the show include Nissan, Mitre 10, Safeway, Mazda, Arnotts, Telstra and Toyota. Current advertisers McDonald's, Foxtel and adidas ruled out a boycott.

The Footy Show has been embroiled in controversy since a stunt in which co-host Sam Newman groped a lingerie-clad mannequin dressed up as The Age's chief football writer, Caroline Wilson. He then labelled women who complained as "liars and hypocrites".

The Age has also redirected advertising from the show to other Nine programs after Newman attacked the newspaper and its journalists. Sales and marketing director Antony Catalano said he made the decision because Newman's statements were untrue and "trashed the brand".

In a further development, The Age has learned that a member of the show's production team, who asked that his name not be published, has resigned in the wake of the furore. When contacted, the former employee, who worked primarily with comedian Trevor Marmalade, chose not to comment on the reasons he decided to leave the program mid-season.
